For over a decade, CSPA has provided funding to assist with the costs of providing skill development in various disciplines. The Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) committee, in collaboration with CSPA Women’s Initiatives Committee (WIC) and CSPA Registered Participants and Members (dropzones, clubs, and provincial sport organizations), will look to facilitate these funding initiatives. The aim for the athlete development funding is to support opportunities that correlate to the goals as set out in the LTAD framework represented in Flight Plan. Such opportunities can include skill development camps, seminars, workshops, and competitive events. The primary aim is to support opportunities which promote and develop skills related to Canadian competitive disciplines in keeping with Flight Plan Stages 4 through 6. In addition, for both competitive and non-competitive skydiving disciplines, the promotion of staying safe and active in the sport as identified in Flight Plan Stages 3 and 7.

The goals and priorities in providing skill development funding opportunities are: 

1. To promote Canadian competitive disciplines to CSPA registered participants and develop skills which lead to successful competition and increase safe participation in the sport (Flight Plan Stages 4-6). 
2. To provide competition opportunities for CSPA registered participants as an introduction to competition and a means to identify potential National Team Members (Flight Plan Stages 4-6). 
3. To provide opportunities for Canadian Competition Development coaches and officials to further develop their skills and progress to the next level of certification (Flight Plan Stages 4-6). 
4. To promote CSPA registered participants to stay Active for Life by being involved in any skydiving discipline with a focus on safety and skill progression (Flight Plan Stage 7)  
5. To provide an opportunity for CSPA registered participants to develop skills which promote the safe progression in the sport of skydiving (Flight Plan Stage 3)   

Priority of funding will be given to items 1 through 3, followed by 4, and then 5. Additionally, CSPA qualifications (i.e. CoP’s, ratings, certifications or endorsements) of organizers/coaches/applicants will be considered. Equivalent qualifications (i.e. USPA or IBA licenses or ratings) will be considered as long as all CSPA rules and regulations are met.

The Canadian competitive disciplines are: 4-way/8-way Formation Skydiving/4-way Vertical Formation Skydiving; Canopy Piloting; Canopy Formation; Artistic Events; Accuracy Landing; and Wingsuit Flying. Other disciplines may be include, but are not limited to Big Ways, Movement (Track/Angle), Speed skydiving, and record attempts.

Funding will NOT be applied directly to any of the following: jump tickets, packing or tunnel time/coaching (whether if is for individuals/teams, coaches, organizers or videographers); personal equipment (purchase or rental of items such as harness/container; wingsuit, etc) or obtaining coach/instructor ratings or CoPs.

Examples of items that may qualify for funding are: Coaching/judging/videographer/other daily fee, travel or accommodation expense; rental of equipment such as Accuracy tuffet, camera system for CP, Flysight for WS, etc or other such items.

Requests for funding must adhere to the following:

• Applications must be submitted, with all appropriate documentation completed, on or before the stated deadline as determined annually by CSPA,
• Funding request may not exceed $1200,
• All decisions regarding approved initiatives are final, and
• If changes are made after the time of application that could affect the event’s eligibility for funding, the committee must be notified in writing as soon as possible after the change is known

Release of funding is contingent on the following being received by the agreed upon deadline by CSPA (but may not be limited to):

• An article for CanPara OR a report to the relative committee (LTAD or WIC) on your experience.
• Photos for CanPara (if you choose the CanPara option above).
• An expense claim (as provided by CSPA) for the noted reimbursement and a copy of an invoice receipt(s) from the agreed upon expense(s).
• The payment of any allocated funds will only be paid to a CSPA Registered Participant or Member in good standing, upon completion of the event or initiative, except where CSPA has received the conditional arrangements with the individual or group in question. 
• The committee reserves the right to refuse or retract funding if the agreed upon deadlines or funding requirements are not adhered to.
• The committee reserves the right to refuse or retract funding at any time if it is determined that an event has not complied with CSPA’s rules and regulations, or if the event or initiative details have been misrepresented.

The deadline for applications is May 5, 2024. All application requests will go to the committee for approval and applicants will be notified (when possible) by May 31, 2024.
